Unit 150, initiative of the Mayor Sindoni

The Mayor of Capo d'Orlando Enzo Sindoni on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy (Thursday, 17 March), sent a letter to President Giorgio Napolitano, the President of the Region Raffaele Lombardo, the Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and the Interior Minister Roberto Maroni. The full text of the letter:
"Capo d'Orlando, the City of which I am proud to be mayor, will follow the protocol of one hundred and fiftieth anniversary celebration of the unification of Italy, and will present on 17 March, the tricolor.
Our flag is a symbol of a country born of the Unification, perhaps son of the correct conception of unity, but that still shows inequalities evident, from the Alps to Lampedusa. In fact, living in Padua, or reside in Bergamo is not as Gioia Tauro and San Fratello.
On March 17, the flag of the town of Capo d'Orlando will be draped in mourning to honor the memory of the fallen civil sons of our land: more than sixty people dead since 2009, following the flood of Giampilieri, and insecurity of ' Palermo-Messina motorway.
On the highway A20, built with 90% of funds in Sicily for years are not made safety interventions, and yet they pay the most expensive toll in Italy.
For the hydrogeological of our province, the government has granted a loan of five million euro for 2011, assigning to the three hundred and forty-five Veneto Liguria.
The inequality that is perpetuated from 1861 to the detriment of the Sicilians was paid with death by the victims mentioned above, and the day of the celebration of national unity that I feel a civic duty to remind you, because the drive to be a value can not confined to the perimeter of an area, but should be based on solidarity and equity.
It is hoped that the celebration of March 17, 2011 marks the start of a different focus to our Island, subjugated to the cliché of being a land of waste and assistance, and instead using only excise duty on the sale of refined fuels in Sicily, brings to the state budget of five billion euro a year compared with three who moved to Rome Regione.Questo is a day to celebrate the fact, but also to remind and reflect on the many discrepancies and contradictions that have characterized these 150 years.
